Clermont have called on fans to support departing winger Napolioni Nalaga after he was booed at the Stade Marcel Michelin on Saturday.
The powerful Fijian winger will join Toulon at the end of the season, much to the disappointment of les Jaunards, with whom he has scored 101 tries in two spells.
After initially joining the club in 2007, he finished as the top scorer in the Top 14 for three years in a row, before scoring the only try in the final as Clermont finally won the Bouclier de Brennus for the first time in 2010.
However he will join rivals Toulon on a three-year deal at the end of the current campaign, and was jeered on Saturday when he came off the bench in a 19-10 win over Castres.
That did not sit well with sporting director Jean-Marc Lhermet, who called on fans to forget their disappointment and support their player.
"We're disappointed by the decision of Nap's [Nalaga]. I'm sure it wasn't an easy choice for him, but we have to respect it," said Lhermet.
"We have a special history with this player, so it's disappointing that he's leaving, but that doesn't explain the whistling we heard. That is unacceptable, we mustn't forget everything he has given this club, and what he will give to this club this season.
"I really hope that's the end of it and everyone will support and encourage him until the end of the season."
