Frustration: Sergio Parisse

Stade Franšais captain Sergio Parisse conceded that Leinster were stronger than his side in their 34-13 defeat in the Challenge Cup.

Stade fell at the final hurdle for the second time in three years in the competition, a bitter record that Parisse hopes will spur his young side on.

"This is the second one in three years in this tournament but I hope the young team grows from this," said Parisse.

"Of course if Leinster won it was because they were the much stronger side and naturally we are very disappointed.

"They scored three tries in first half from things we had worked on during the week but Leinster played very well and were very smart.

"They took that early lead and it was very difficult to try and come back from that.

Coach David Auradou echoed his captain's statements, highlighting Stade's failure to make the most of their opportunities and considerable amount of possession in the first half.

"When as a coach and want to have all your players available but that is not an excuse for us to hide behind," said Auradou.

"I agree with Sergio that Leinster totally deserved to win but we also lost the game and that really hurts.

"It was a good summary of our season - we caused trouble for Leinster in some areas but we did not take our opportunities but that is life at this level.

"We have learnt more lessons but it was not all negative. We won a lot of possession but failed to score and at times we played like novices.

"It is easy when you are behind a video so we do not want to blame the young players at all - they are the future of the club."

Listen, I don't claim things like "this is the best in the world" because that is always a blind judgment. I'm saying Parisse needs a better team (Leinster, Toulon, Leicster...maybe a SR team?) as he is wasted in Paris. You don't want to see sucha talent in a crappy, underachieaved team.

Read is a phenomenal number 8 so are many, but because he is in a "winnig" team it looks even bigger. Fair enough. Not claiming Parisse is better then him or inferior.

Parisse can definitly do everything u want from a n8: turnovers, big tackles, line-outs, offloads, kicks and magic stuff.

Same goes to legend Zinzen Brooke...I grow up watching tapes about that era and he was pure joy to watch. total class and talent. no question about it. by then playing with "that" NZ squad back then, ofc he is even more legendary than anyone else.

All I'm saying is, Parisse needs to go now if he wants some silverware in his cabinet.

Hmmm interesting comment " Zinzan only played internationally in the Pro era for a season and a half ..."

So just becoz the pro era began in 1995 (after the SA WC) and ZB retired in 1997 he is not the best!!!

IMHO those few matches are worth morethan a whole career of some of the guys who played after.

Also "Also your fitness comments are funny as one of Parisse's many positives is his ruggedness, he rarely misses a game, READ on the other hand is a bit of an eggshell in comparison, look at the matches he has missed the past 2-3 seasons." is funny too.

I mean look at Chris Masoe, again arguably one of the top two players of the HC and someone who will not even be picked for the MIB right now.

The injury count in the SH is much higher than in NH and not only KR but a lot of 8s seem to pick up knocks during the S15. that has much to do with the intensity of the competition. (this week George Smith got a bacd knock and may not play against the lions :( duh )

It is harder to shine among a lot of good players but u can be a star among so so players. its not SR's fault he plays for Italy or SF, but if anyone thinks those are top of the world teams then .... no point arguing such trivia. :)

if we consider the point "Read is mostly very good in outstanding teams AB's & Saders" , then mate does that mean DC is the best fly half the world has seen becoz he plays for MIB and Saders? duh !!!!

Parisse is better than Read IMO, always outstanding in carp teams Azzurri & Stade that is the measure, Read is mostly very good in outstanding teams AB's & Saders.

Zinzan only played internationally in the Pro era for a season and a half so hardly warrants ''arguably the best 8 in the professional era is ZINZAN BROOKE.'' statement IMO.

Also your fitness comments are funny as one of Parisse's many positives is his ruggedness, he rarely misses a game, READ on the other hand is a bit of an eggshell in comparison, look at the matches he has missed the past 2-3 seasons.

errrr ... "" ...such a great talent, possible the best 8 in the world ...""

great talent ?? yes,

best 8 ?? NO WAY !!!!

arguably the best 8 in the professional era is ZINZAN BROOKE.

of the current lot READ is the best atm.

when injury free and fully fit he comes somewhere close to ZB.

Total waste of time in Paris. He's just enjoying a glamour life with her cute wife, but ambition should move the desire for a better team. Parisse imo need to find a better, winning team next season. It is just painful too see such a great talent, possible the best 8 in the world in such an unprofitable team. Get out of Paris amico.
