Not ready yet: Williams

It looks like New Zealand will have to wait yet another week to see Sonny Bill Williams run out in a Canterbury jersey as he is not yet fit for action.

The 25-year-old outside centre, who has yet to represent his new province since making the move south from French side Toulon, remains off the competition pace after picking up a tight hamstring in action for Christchurch club Belfast.

And coach Rob Penney has admitted his reason for holding him back, saying that throwing his man into such a big clash just isn't a smart move.

"It would be really unfair to make that call, for all sorts of reasons," Penney said, speaking to Radio Sport.

"He just hasn't had any game time under his belt so to expect him to come up and perform against a team like Auckland at this stage, I think would be a bit unusual and a bit unfair."

Canterbury's following fixture will be against Bay of Plenty on September 3.

Stellenbosched, for Williams I believe it was because he was a big time steal from rugby league and for Henson it is b/c he was the most marketable Welshman. Also it doesn't hurt that the ladies love both of them.

There are two rugby players who seem to be permanently in the news, yet do absolutely nothing on the field. Williams and Henson have supplied acres of print, yet as a South African I am curious to know why.

I was going to say Kahui but I figured everyone would jump on me because he normally plays outside center or on the wing for the AB's.

Wow , don't forget about the other injury prone dynamo "Kahui" Henry and Co must have one eye cocked on him too

The guy is coming from Top 14 rugby, I'm sure he can handle the ITM Cup. Stop building the drama already. They need to stop acting like Ma'a Nonu is just keeping the AB's 12 jersey warm until Sonny Bill is ready for it. He's also got to get through MacAllister (who offers goal kicking) and to a lesser extent the hard hitting Benson Stanley. Let's cut the nonsense and get him out on the pitch already.
