Five changes: Brian Smith

London Irish director of rugby Brian Smith has made five changes to his side to face London Welsh at the Madejski Stadium.

The front row of Tom Court, David Paice and Geoff Cross remains unchanged and in the second row Nic Rouse, who returns from injury, joins captain George Skivington.

The back row sees Jebb Sinclair pack down at number eight, with Kieran Low and Blair Cowan on the flanks.

Scott Steele is joined by Chris Noakes in the half backs, with Shane Geraghty moving to inside centre to link up with Fergus Mulchrone in the midfield.

Alex Lewington returns to the starting line-up on the wing, with Topsy Ojo on the other and Tom Homer at full-back.

Harry Allen, Leo Halavatau, Halani Aulika, Dan Leo and Ofisa Treviranus are the forwards replacements, with Eamonn Sheridan and Andrew Fenby joined by Tomás O'Leary, who makes his return from injury, on the bench for the backs.

"We have made a few changes this week," said Director of Rugby Brian Smith. "The same group of players have featured heavily for the last three weeks and with a shorter week this week we have decided to make some changes."

"We have also had a few guys return to fitness after injury which gives us some more options. Welsh are a quality side so we will have to turn up on Boxing Day switched on and ready to go."

Meanwhile, London Welsh make seven changes, including one positional.

In the backs, Nick Scott returns to the side on the left wing, with Elliot Kear switching to the right wing. Team captain Tom May and Seb Jewell are named at outside and inside centre respectively.

In the forwards, Nathan Trevett starts at loosehead and Nathan Vella at hooker. Dean Schofield comes into the second row.

On the bench, James Tincknell is set to make his first appearance of the season for the Exiles, after sustaining a knee injury in Welsh's pre-season friendly at Henley Hawks.

"The Saracens result was very disappointing and there was a lot of heartache on Monday morning when we came in to review the game," said London Welsh head coach Justin Burnell.

"But in true London Welsh fashion the heads were soon back up, we've had a good week's training and now we're really looking forward to Friday's game against London Irish."

Form: The two clubs have met twice before in Premiership Rugby during season 2012/13 with each side winning its respective home game. London Welsh's only previous visit to Madejski Stadium ended in a 28-47 reversal.
